Rawmarsh – Sandhill Area

The site is very open on all boundaries and mainly consists of a large area of red shale, remnant of the industrial past of the town. This red shale area is used extensively by riders of illegal motor-vehicles, many of whom are not local, making it a very unsafe place for pedestrians, dog walkers and other recreational users. Local consultation with residents and users identified a desire to restrict and prevent the access of motor-vehicles onto the site where possible, build in deterrents to riders of motorcycles/quad bikes, improve the main footpaths running through the site, and create new access over and around the stream through installation of new surfacing and bridges
