Projects / Re-profiling of Little Woolden Moss

Re-profiling of Little Woolden Moss

The project is centred on Little Woolden Moss, at 107ha, one of the largest surviving areas of bog left in Greater Manchester. The proposed works will build upon the recent and successful rewetting of part of the site. The site was purchased by the Trust in 2012, however, peat extraction continued on parts of the site until last year. The proposed works will target the areas of raised land that have been too difficult to rewet. Re-profiling of the higher peat areas and using the higher peat to infilling some of the lower currently flooded land, will allow control of water levels, which is vital to the ongoing restoration. The planned work will allow a larger area to be restored within the close vicinity of the public footpath and viewing areas.
