Re-surfacing of St Briavels Tennis Court

This is a project to re-surface the tennis court on St Briavels Playing Fields in the Forest of Dean.

The village tennis court in St Briavels, originally constructed over 50 years ago, was last resurfaced during the 1990s. A minor refurbishment was carried out in 2022, which included the removal of vegetation, sweeping of the court, repainting of lines, installation of a new net, and the introduction of regular coaching sessions. This refurbishment led to a significant resurgence of interest in tennis within the village.

However, the resulting increase in usage has accelerated the deterioration of the court surface. The condition of the surface has now declined to such an extent that play has become inconsistent and, at times, potentially hazardous.

The proposed project involves the professional resurfacing of the tennis court to ensure safe and consistent use. In addition to resurfacing, the project will include the rebuilding of a supporting wall and repairs to sections of the perimeter netting.

The tennis court serves as a valuable asset to the community, promoting health, fitness, wellbeing, and community cohesion. Over the past year, approximately 300 individuals have used the facility. These users range from experienced regular players to parents with young children, encompassing all ages and skill levels. All will benefit from the improved surface. Resurfacing will also enable the continuation of the village’s regular weekly coaching sessions and the annual, keenly contested tennis tournament.
