Red Rose Peatland Recovery

Birch House Farm & Mitchells Field are LWT sites that have been historically drained and heavily grazed, resulting in a species poor landscape that is dominated by agricultural grasses, and key bog species have been lost.

Work has been done to improve the site’s hydrology; we now need to carry out revegetation with peat-forming species. This project will improve site floral diversity with associated bog species; this will improve ecosystem functionality, lead to a more robust habitat and extend the coverage of wetland habitat to create a buffer to project the nearby Winmarleigh Moss SSSI.
