Red Squirrels in the Eden Valley

The population of red squirrels in the northern eden valley is one of the most important remaining populations in Northern England. The project aims to put in place a strategic system of monitoring and grey squirrel control in key woodlands in order to protect this important native mammal. The project will recruit local volunteers to help with monitoring and raising awareness, and will work with landowners to ensure sustainability of the project into the future. It will also identify the level of threat from squirrelpox virus, the main threat to the survival of this local population of the red squirrels.
