Rediscovering Deep Dale’s Dew Pond

This project is to restore a derelict dew pond (priority habitat) at Deep Dale Nature Reserve. Dew Ponds are a historic feature of the Peak District’s limestone landscape. The pond will be restored using methods that have been developed through similar projects and will involve excavating the silt, saving the stone setts that form the base, exposing and protecting the clay base with a geotextile liner, relaying the stone setts and fencing the pond to protect from cattle and allow a margin of tall vegetation.
