Regional MSW Planning Tool

Supporting councils who are defining their kerbside recycling programmes and Civic Amenity site requirements. The tool has been used succesfully by 16 councils and is now being applied to the rest of Scotland at the request of the Scottish Executive.

The next step is to develop a regional tool which will inform councils on the economics of locating waste treatment facilities in terms of optimal geographic location together with optimal size. The work will be based on early modelling work already carried out.

The project will produce a software tool to assist councils on the best treatment strategies as part of their Integrated Waste Management plans. Tool will determine overall cost of collection, treatment and disposal.
