Reinstatement of Hummersea Steps

Following violent storms in 2004, the stepswere ripped from the hillside. Further landslides have followed and the public right of way has been lost. This area of beach is so popular that visitors have taken to descending tot he beach by rope. The Cleveland Way National Trail runs along the cliff tops and the access down to the beach creates an interesting stop for many of the visitors. The steps have also been used for many years by local fisherman, ramblers and coast guard volunteers for training days. The steps are a unique feature of the coastline and the beach is of local and regional importance due to its historic and tranquil value. Reinstatement of the steps has been widely supported by not only the local community, but by the wide variety of visitors in general.
