Reintroduction of Grazing at Wildmoor Heath, Berkshire

Wildmoor Heath nature reserve in Berkshire is a 91-hectare Site of Special Scientific Interest, and part of the wider Thames Basin Heath Special Protection Area. The site is seen as internationally important for nature conservation because of its Lowland Heathland priority habitat and important populations of nightjar, woodlark, and Dartford warbler.
To allow us to continue to successfully manage the landscape and ensure the survival of a rare heathland habitat we plan to reintroduce grazing to the site. Grazing is an effective and natural way to maintain certain habitats such as heathland present at Wildmoor. It helps to keep areas open and ensuring a wider variety of plants and animals.

The purchase of a tractor would be used to help feed the animals and muck out the livestock handling area throughout winter.
