Renewal of benches for Jubilee Gardens

Jubilee Gardens, one of Central London’s busiest green spaces, was relandscaped in 2012 and opened by HM Queen Elizabeth. Twelve high-quality benches were funded via ENTRUST, and now, 60 million visitors later, 10 of these require replacement. The benches have become worn and uneconomical to maintain due to high usage. They will be replaced with sturdy and sustainable teak benches with a 10-20-year life expectancy. Some benches will be moved to improve sightlines to iconic views and release pressure on busy footpaths. This will provide replacement seating for elderly and disabled visitors, people with chronic conditions, families and those who live and work locally. The existing benches are the most popular feature of the Gardens used by 48% of residents and 58% of visitors. Jubilee Gardens is a highly valued local resource as there is 63% less Average Green Space locally per resident than elsewhere in London. Residents make up 6% of users (360k people a year), while another 32% are from other parts
