Renovation of the Gardens at the Ecumenical Centre, Skelmersdale

The existing garden at the Ecumenical Centre, Skelmersdale will be brought to life to create a sanctuary offering vulnerable and disadvantaged young people, adults and families with an outdoor social hub that promotes learning, development, enterprise and sense of wellbeing. The vision is to create a healing garden where individuals feel safe, relaxed and can mix socially in a stimulating and supportive outdoor environment. The gardens will be a multi-functional space; a gallery, performance space, classroom, allotment, meeting space and a café that feeds both people and biodiversity. The garden will provide training and work experience for young people and adults with mental health issues at risk of suicide and self-harm. The friendly, informal setting of the garden will provide a safe and supportive environment where people can grow. The plan: •12 beds restored and raised; •Compost Corner; •Tree Orchard; •Community Beehive; •Seating and performance area; •Japanese Garden.
