Repair of St Nicholas, Stretton, Rutland Church Wall

St Nicholas Church in Stretton acts as both a church and community hub following a major refurbishment in 2020/2021. In Oct 2024, a section of the church’s ancient dry stone perimeter wall collapsed adjacent to the entrance gate, caused by roots from a large Sycamore tree. The tree is healthy and cannot be removed, but will require some root and branch surgery. This makes the repair complicated and a protective concrete trench footing will be needed to prevent recurrence. The the rotted churchyard gate will also be replaced and further repair of a section of wall which is bulging and likely to fall in the near future. The fallen section is both unsightly and a hazard, it is currently cordoned off for safety reasons as such the repair is needed urgently
