Repairs to Chimney at Ellen Road Engine House

The historic 220 foot high chimney of the steam driven textile Mill at Ellen Road is a major local landmark that is in need of repairs and protection from the weather. This will be carried out by professional steeple jacks.

The engine house has been scheduled as an Historic Monument by Rochdale Council and is operated as a Museum by volunteers of the Ellen Road Trust.The engine house holds the largest working steam driven textile mill engine in its original location in the world. The Museum is open to the public monthly and the Trust plans to further develop it as a venue for interpretaion of the industrial heritage of the local area.
