Repairs to the Stonework and Rainwater Goods, St Peter’s Church, Kineton

Repair and conservation of masonry, prevention of any further deterioration of the building, maintain the structural integrity. The stonework of the C13 tower is quite eroded; there are large areas of friable ashlar stone, which present a danger to public safety. Although most of the ashlar work will only need brushing down to a sound surface, many of the string courses and buttress caps will need replacement. Only selected re-pointing will be necessary. The pierced balustrade at roof level was replaced in recent times, but the pinnacles and the stones adjacent have now eroded. All four sides of the tower will need a comprehensive schedule of repair, stone by stone. Rest of church: many structural details need repair and/or replacement, window mullions, the quatrefoil balustrade to the chancel, finials, battlements, weathered string courses with drip and copings. Also, several defects in the rainwater goods are apparent and need complete replacement/overhaul.
