Replacement Windows and Doors, North Cerney Memorial Village Hall, Gloucestershire

This is a project to replace the windows and doors at North Cerney Memorial Village Hall.

North Cerney Memorial Village Hall serves as a central gathering place for the communities of North Cerney, Calmsden, Woodmancote, Churnside, Bagendon, and Perrotts Brook. Built around 1923 as a memorial to those who lost their lives in the First World War, the hall was established on land granted in perpetuity to the community by The Earl Bathurst. Over the years, the hall has undergone several upgrades, yet the original Crittall windows remain. The deterioration of the oak frames and the inefficiency of the existing secondary glazing result in significant heat loss, placing a considerable burden on the hall’s oil-fired heating system.

As the only secular indoor community space in the area, the hall serves as a venue for a diverse range of activities, including community suppers, fitness classes, coffee mornings, whist club, bingo, and performances by the Churn Valley Players and professional bands. It also hosts private events such as weddings, christenings, and birthday celebrations, as well as public meetings of the Parish Council, fundraising initiatives, and educational activities for North Cerney Primary School. Additionally, it functions as the community’s designated Polling Station. Constructed in Cotswold stone and located within the North Cerney Conservation Area, the hall is a well-preserved and valued community asset.

To enhance the sustainability and comfort of the facility, the project aims to replace the original windows with ‘Heritage’ style, energy-efficient alternatives. These improvements will not only enhance the building’s aesthetic appeal but will also significantly reduce heating costs and lower its environmental footprint. Other structural improvements, including a new roof installed a decade ago and upgraded toilet facilities with energy-efficient thermostatic heaters, have already contributed to the hall’s long-term viability.
