Replacing the hide at Kilnsea Wetlands Nature Reserve

Spurn is a long, narrow peninsula at the mouth of the Humber. SPA, National Nature Reserve and Heritage Coast, it is renowned as a migration hotspot (Bird Observatory) open to visitors since 1946. Despite poor accessibility and facilities, public interest as a visitor attraction has always been high due to unique coastal geography; a Migration Festival is now held annually. In 2013, Spurn was breached by tidal surge midway to much publicity and closed permanently to vehicles, with demolition of the information centre. In compensation, new reserve visitor areas have opened just inland (e.g. Kilnsea Wetlands) and, with heightened interest, there is considerable investment in visitor infrastructure, including a prominent new visitor centre.
