Restoration and Management of Floodplain Meadow Habitat in Oxfordshire

Traditional floodplain meadows hosting a rich diversity of wildlife once abounded across the English countryside, but are now nationally rare. BBOWT’s nature reserves at Chminey Meadows, Iffley Meadows and Oxey Mead all encompass floodplain meadow habitats and are therefore extremely precious sites. The project focuses on using traditional land management methods (carrying out a late summer hay cut followed by autumn cattle grazing) together with managing the hydrology of these sites.
