Projects / Restoration of Adderbury Lakes

Restoration of Adderbury Lakes

This project aims to restore the lakes to their former glory following the resolution of water quality problems caused by farm run off and sewage pollution in 2019. The pollution was stopped two years ago and the Adderbury Lakes management group now want to remove the excess weed to a manageable level. This will further improve water quality to enable the restoration of previous levels of wildlife, including invertebrates and amphibians.

Local volunteers will be involved in the weed clearance making and putting up signs, cordoning off footpaths, raking back weed from the lakes edge and manning the boat.
The local community will encounter more waterfowl and birds. This will make the nature reserve more interesting and enjoyable to all.
The local primary school will resume nature visits and the children will be able to see and explore life in the water, rather than just seeing overgrown weed.
