Projects / Restoration of Ancient Sherwood Habitats

Restoration of Ancient Sherwood Habitats

Foxcovert Plantation consists of both oak-birch woodland and an area of acid grassland. However, much of this is under threat from the proliferation of the non-native Sycamore. We wish to remove all of the Sycamore in the central woodland and will be enlisting up to 40 volunteers to help replant it with native species such as Oak, Birch and Rowan as well as remove the non-native Rhododendron. Further to this, the area at Foxcovert known as the Emilies will be grazed, using a number of our hebridean sheep, to help restore the Lowland Acid Grassland habitat typical of the ancient Sherwood forest. Rides will be improved and a motorcycle barrier installed to prevent illegal vehicle entry
