Projects / Restoration of Chesterfield Canal at Staveley

Restoration of Chesterfield Canal at Staveley

This project focuses on the canal restoration works that extend from Staveley to the Doe Lea Valley and include the following:
• The design and construction of a new bridleway bridge and an earthwork embankment to form the new canal channel for c850m, including water supply,
• The detailed design and construction of a new lock structure (Railway Lock),
• The detailed design and construction of a new vehicular bridge structure (Bellhouse Bridge),
• The detailed design and construction or upgrades of 3km of footways and bridleways, including those to the TPT Bridge,
• All necessary ‘temporary works’ design and installation associated with the above

There is the requirement to relocate a badger sett to allow the canal restoration works to proceed. It is currently located where the earthworks embankment will form the new canal channel. All works pertaining to the badger sett will be managed by an ecologist under a Natural England Badger Licence. This funding will be used to create the new badger sett.
