Restoration of Great Weir and Associated Waterway at Coldharbour Mill

To restore the Great Weir on the River Culm at Uffculme and repair the associated waterway supplying water to the High Leat which supplies water to the Restored Water Wheel at the Mill.
To replace a temporary footbridge over the leat at the Mill and attach a disabled access ramp to improve access to the Gill Box Restaurant.
In the future it is hoped to re-instate a turbine for the generation of electricity. A tunnel exists between the high and low leats, apparently for a turbine, although none of the machinery, if indeed it was ever installed, remains.
Addendum – the mill has been approached by Uffculme Environmental Ltd for suggestions for a community access project to be funded by Viridor. In discussion with UEL, the mill has proposed to add a footbridge to the project, which would cross the river Culm at the Great Weir. This would provide a good viewing point for the weir and join up 2 existing paths.
