The aim is to:
1. Restore the only surviving accessible Kiln Hovel in South Derbyshire, expanding its use for audio visual interpretation, temporary exhibitions and community arts events.
2. Enhance the Museum offer by creating a new exhibition telling the story of the National Forest, linked to coal and clay extraction and the impact of the pottery industry.
3. Create more meeting room space for smaller groups for training, community activities and education.
4. Create more opportunities and activities for new audiences with a focus on local communities.
