Restoration of medieval Bell frame and building of new gallery

The project consists of 2 phases: 1) The restoration of the medieval bell frame foundation which has suffered from water ingress and death watch beetle, and are therefore structurally impaired with the potential to collapse. As the bells have to be removed to complete this work we are having them refurbished as their fittings are badly worn, there having been no major remedial work done for the past 70 years. The bells comprise a set of 6 cast in 1699 by William Eldridge, plus 2 cast in 1897 for Queen Victoria’s golden jubulee 2) A ringing gallery is to be installed replacing the one removed in the 1854-55 rebuilding. This will provide the ringers with a much safer environment, provide easier access for the public and for educational visits and most importantly, under the gallery provide a small meeting room within the local community.
