Restoration of Taddington War Memorial

This project will restore the village War Memorial, located in the village Church yard as its condition has deteriorated as the War Memorial has aged over many years.

The agreed specification of work includes advice from the War Memorial’s Trust. The memorial is a century old and so in line with best conservation practice, cleaning should be limited as the desired outcome is not to present the memorial in a like-new condition – rather, the patina of age should be preserved.

Work will include:
Stone cleaning of pedestal base;
Stone cleaning using DOFF/ Thermatech steam cleaning system or
Hand cleaning using natural bristle brushes and low pressure water;
Inscription work;
Re-painting of lettering only using appropriate oil based paint in colour to match existing to improve legibility of the text on the memorial and the names listed on this;
Re-pointing (memorial’s joints and paving);
Careful removal of defective/loose mortar;
Re-pointing of construction joints with an appropriate lime mortar.
