Projects / Restoring Appleton Mill Farm’s Grasslands

Restoring Appleton Mill Farm’s Grasslands

This project aims to restore approx 30ha of lowland species rich meadows within a farm on the southern fringe of the North Yorkshire Moors. Intensifying farming practices over the last century in this area have meant much species rich grassland has been lost. At Appleton Mill some very small relic patches remain, whilst other areas are suitable for restoration. Re-seeding, installing fencing and gates, and purchasing stock and machinery, will allow grazing management to be tailored for conservation means and improve the diversity of the grasslands on the farm.
