Restoring Challan Hall Allotment for Rare Butterflies – Leighton Moss

The aim of this project is to restore habitat at Challan Hall Allotment for threatened butterflies, particularly three endangered species – high brown fritillary, pearl-bordered fritillary and Duke of Burgundy. We will do this by re-introducing coppicing, felling trees and removing scrub to create a more open vegetation which will encourage butterflies to thrive and breed on the site, thereby enhancing the wildlife spectacle for visitors.
