Projects / Restoring Grazing Marsh at Roman Otmoor

Restoring Grazing Marsh at Roman Otmoor

Along a 60 metre contour, we will create & restore a series of scrapes on a 12 hectare block of Ashgrave field at Otmoor nature reserve, which is part of a larger project including a 15 hectare lagoon and 31 islands. This will be done in conjunction with archaeologists, as the location is near a Roman site. The archaeologists will keep a log of any remains that are found ensuring that any potential Roman sites are not damaged. Restoration of floodplain grazing marsh will meet UK and Oxfordshire HAP targets as well as improving conditions for many BAP species, such as redshank, lapwing, snipe and water vole.
