Restoring habitat for dormice in Somerset

To restore habitat to favour dormice and other UK BAP species using sustainable management practices, and improving access in this beautiful ancient woodland site in the Mells Valley in Somerset.
This two year project will restore Harridge Woods and Cheddar Wood to provide habitat for dormice and to benefit other UK BAP species. This 52 ha nature reserve is very popular with visitors from near and far, and the project will also improve access for them.

Practical management works will include:
ride cutting and maintaining glades, coppicing, thinning conifers, managing invasive species, management of hedges, placing and checking dormouse tubes.
