Restoring the Natural Balance: Control of Invasive Species for Wildlife at Bough Beech

The project will clear and control non-native invasive species at Bough Beech Nature Reserve, enhancing biodiversity and supporting numerous wildlife species.

The invasive weed, Crassula helmsii – which is currently reducing habitat quality and inhibiting wildlife within the Roy Coles Scrape – will be cleared, and the scrape re-profiled to support on-going management of this species. Work will create additional open water and marginal reedbed habitats.

The clearance of Cherry Laurel within the adjoining Winkhurst Wood will open up this woodland habitat, enabling important flora and fauna species to re-colonise.

A Volunteer Trainee Warden will be appointed to support on-going conservation management.
