ReTern: Breeding Seabirds at Dungeness

Create 40 shingle islands, shingle peninsulas and 3 floating islands, to re-create nesting opportunities on Burrowes Pit. Facilitate the re-colonisation by breeding seabirds, lost from the reserve when water levels rose unexpectedly 10 years ago. Purchase a boat allowing safe and efficient management of the islands; create additional damp sand habitat for waders, rare invertebrates and plants; improve the visitor experience by creating viewing opportunities in front of the visitor centre and hides. The height of the existing islands will be built up and re-graded, which will in turn build the resilience within the pSPA and improve the visitor spectacle.
