Rewetting Winmarleigh – saving Lancashire’s largest raised bog

The aim of this project is to signficantly improve the condition of Winmarleigh Moss SSSI. Winmarleigh Moss is a lowland raised bog which has dried out considerably but still retains a core of bog vegegation. The aim of the project works is to help rewet the site and encourage the spread of bog vegetation. Restoration works will include the construction of an access track, drainage ditch infilling, scrub clearance, peat bunding, instllation of overflow pipes, and construction/installation of dipwells.
