Rewilding Thrupp Green

Thrupp Green is one of the only green areas in the vicinity and the Parish Council would like to protect it and restore it for the benefit of wildlife and visitors. Currently it is used as overflow car parking for Annie’s Tea Room. The Council have adopted the area from Canal and River Trust.

The people that use this route could vary from Kidlington residents walking to that area, canal boat users passing through Thrupp, residents of Thrupp, walkers from other areas, customers visiting the tea rooms for lunch or afternoon tea and people who are hiring the canoe boats during the day as well.

The plan includes planting long grasses around the perimeter, along with planters filled with flowers that attract pollinators such as butterflies and bees. There will also be areas of lower-cut grass leading into the centre, interspersed with wildflowers. Each entrance to the cut-grass paths will also have planters with flowers that attract pollinators.

The Parish Council is collaborating with Wild Oxfordshire on the design and for advice on what will grow in the space.

Several residents have already expressed interest in helping with this project. Additionally, there is a group from the nearby Village Green allotment, overseen by local parish residents from Shipton, Bunkers Hill, and Thrupp, who are also eager to participate.
