Rivelin Valley – a Living Landscape from Moors to City

The Rivelin Valley is a key part of Sheffield’s ecological network or ‘Living Landscape’, which connects the moors in the west to the city and beyond. It is essential that the heaths (UKBAP), woods (LBAP) and river corridor (LBAP) of the Rivelin Valley are restored to full ecological functionality to allow wildlife to migrate and survive in the face of climate change. Planned activities include heathland restoration, woodland management to improve the quality of the wood/heath interface and control of invasive plants in the watercourses flowing through the heathland. Community engagement will include running workdays on site to provide opportunities for local people to be involved in management and learn more about wildlife. Schools will also be engaged in environmental education sessions.
