River Bank Restoration at the River Tawd (Tawd Valley Park)

Eroded sections of river bank will be restored by a contractor using green engineering techniques as well as habitat provision in the form of Kingfisher nest boxes and willow spiling. Willow spiling will be undertaken by volunteers. Volunteers will attend a willow spiling course to enable them to undertake physical work to stabilise banks using natural materials harvested on site. The course will be funded by others. A contribution will be made towards the cost of tools. Riverfly monitoring kits will be purchased to allow for surveying of the river during community volunteer events. Regular Riverfly surveying is critical to monitor pollution events and water quality. River ecology Interpretation panels will be installed. Reinstating sections of the river bank will ensure the riverside footpath is safe to use for the many people who visit the area for wildlife watching and walks.
