River Colne Countryside Project – Barn Owls in the Colne Valley

To promote the conservation of the barn owl (tyto alba) and maintain and enhance numbers of birds in the Colchester area of Colne Valley by increasing the available nesting and roosting sites. This project seeks to install 10 nesting boxes at various sites in the Colne Valley. The project also aims to promote the scheme by producing an information leaflet for the Colne Valley community. Two local schools have expressed an interest in the scheme and if successful the project would work with them on the construction of the nesting boxes. The barn owl boxes have an estimated lifespan of 8 to 10 years. The River Colne Countryside Project will undertake to maintain them during this period.
