River Hull Wetlands – After the Floods

Within the project site – the River Hull Headwaters – the work will support habitat enhancement works at a number of locations – 4 Sites of Scientific Interest (SSSIs) and 50 local sites enhancing habitats that will increase ecological connectivity within the Hull valley. Habitat enhancement and creation works will focus primarily on the UK BAP priority habitat – chalk rivers, but also benefit lowland rich fen, wet woodland and lowland meadows. Associated species enhancement work will benefit water vole and otter populations. Essential management works will be undertaken and monitoring programmes implemented to guide future management of these habitats.
Invasive non- native species are present at relatively low densities within the catchment but are, of course, spreading. We will initiate a comprehensive programme of mapping and systematic removal of these species.
