Riverhead Parkland Improvement Project, Riverhead Parish Council, Sevenoaks

The project is to improve the parkland. Brambles have been encroaching on the parkland for the last 20 years, narrowing the area where people can walk, run their dogs and are spoiling the beauty of the parkland. The project involves removing the brambles in three areas with a digger, scraping out the roots, burying the brambles in a 3ft deep trench and reseeding the area with grass. Three of the trees, a 200 year old oak, a Wellingtonia and a Monterey pine, have compacted earth surrounding them from people walking by the past 30 years. The intention is to drill around the trees using a VOGT machine, inject air to loosen soil and then to inject fertiliser thereby prolonging the life of the trees by 75 years. There are also plans to renew the path with wood-chippings in the dell area.
