Riverhead Parkland Pond Project, Riverhead Parish Council, Sevenoaks

This is a project to restore the pond within the parklands at Riverhead, near Sevenoaks. The pond is currently clogged with Canadian Pond Weed, a problem which escalated during summer 2011 and contractors have advised that the pond needs to be drained and a mechanical extractor used to remove the weed, which will then need to be burned. The dam holding back the pond at the bridge is leaking and needs a new concrete dam to reinforce the existing one to a 1 metre width. Currently the pathway leading to the pond has a tired, wire fence. The applicant wishes to replace this with a Cleft Chestnut and rail fence. Finally, once the remediation works on the pond have been undertaken, there are plans to replant the pond with Water Iris and adjacent to it plant two Flowering Cherry trees, plus the removal of a stump.
