Rockface & Youth Wing

This project aims to remediate land to enable an exciting development to progress. Following consultation, the diocese aim to refurbish and add a youth wing to a derelict hotel in Alton. The Lord Shrewsbury, to provide a viable new centre for teenagers, including 500 disadvantaged young people per year through a new peer education team led by trained young volunteers.
The extension on the floor of the quarry land will provide disabled facilities for 24, ramps and courtyards and a stepped amphitheatre. The property is a beautiful old stone 19th century building in a conservation area nestled among trees and rocks, overlooked by Alton Castle. However, it has emerged that we have uncovered a legacy from previous mineral exploration, that activity has left the land unsafe and unstable and now further investigations show that the land is currently unable to be used for development or recreation without immediate remediation and is hazardous.
