Rookery Rise, Winsford - Green Area Regeneration

The current green space at the project site includes an old children's play area with broken equipment. This project will enhance and improve the existing amenity green space, be fully accessible to the public, with the creation of areas of shrub and wildflower planting, pathways, and seating, along with bat, owl and bird boxes in bordering mature trees. A community orchard of native British fruit trees will also be created.

The outcome will be an area which will attract wildlife (eg insects, pollinators, small mammals, and birds), as well as providing all-year-round horticultural interest through careful choice of shrubs, and native British wildflowers. Benches will provide seating for all those who will come to enjoy this area; and signage / noticeboard installation will encourage use.

There are just under 500 residential households on the Rookery Rise estate and the project will create a bio-diverse green space (or pocket park) that all can access and enjoy. The project is designed to encourage social cohesion and create opportunities for community involvement. Removing damaged equipment and increasing footfall to the space will reduce antisocial behaviour and create a fully accessible green space for current and future residents—offering education, relaxation, and improved wellbeing through nature.

The project will enhance local biodiversity by planting native species to support pollinators and native wildlife, boosting ecological resilience. Bird, bat and owl boxes will provide essential nesting/roosting sites for species under national pressure.
