Routes 01 Meltham Pleasure Grounds

River Holme catchment offers river access opportunity via moors, farmland and towns. Public consultations indicate routes are often poorly waymarked / unknown. Stiles, steps, undergrowth on some routes make access impossible for less mobile users. Excellent public transport networks make walking cheap / available to locals / visitors but guidance on how to access riverside routes by public transport is limited.

This area has been identified as providing a connection between a managed parkland landscape and the wild moors above Meltham with excellent public transport links at the intersection.

Creating short clean easy to access routes, prompting local exploration on foot, leads to longer, wilder routes. Providing signage improvement, coordinated public transport, digital app access, engagement with local teens, mental / physical disabilities, prams and ethnic minorities will enable more people to use, appreciate and benefit from riverside green space
