RSPB Sandwell – Cracking Down on Crassula

This project aims to remove a large amount of New Zealand pigmyweed (Crassula helmsii) at RSPB Sandwell Valley and manage its future growth. This invasive plant has formed a thick blanket over areas of bare mud and open water, making the habitat unsuitable for migratory and wader bird populations, including legally protected Lapwing and Little Ringed Plover. RSPB Sandwell Valley is a unique free admission urban wetland habitat, accessible via public transport and based in Birmingham enabling us to host a diverse audience, who usually find nature reserves and in particular wetland habitats out of physical or financial reach.
