Internal work: Increase accessibility of the Grade II* listed building by installing a passenger lift to enable non-ambulant or infirm visitors or parents with push chairs a dignified access the majority of the museum. To include an easy-to-open sliding door and easy-going steel steps adjacent to the lift.

Installation of a Local Area Network (LAN) to improve intellectual access to the collections, improved viewing opportunities to the exhibits on the upper floors in the engine house for those unable to climb stairs and to capitalise on the increased use of personal tablets and smart phones. To include the installation of six selectable CCTV cameras and installation of a dedicated internal power supply.

External work: The specialist restoration of stonework.To include the repair of round stone finials that adorned the external balustrade entrance to the front of the museum and a large capping stone to the edge of the north cooling area.
