Saddlescombe Barn conservation and interpretation project

This project seeks to provide a visitor information and community centre to encourage countryside visitors to explore the South Downs, Britain’s newest national park, whilst conserving an 18th century granary barn. We want to tell the 1000-year-old story of Saddlescombe and the surrounding area by creating a permanently-open exhibition area in an 18th century granary (grade 2 listed) in need of conservation. The interpretation will help give people an understanding of farming practice and how this supports the species diversity of chalk downland, hence developing their respect for wildlife, the countryside and its history.
