Safeguarding Roydon Common's Mires

Safeguarding Roydon Common’s Mires is a five-year programme of work at NWT Roydon Common and Rising Heath Nature Reserves, West Norfolk, which aims to provide vital complementary habitats, re-establish and restore rare and valuable mire habitats and increase the resilience of this highly complex mixed mire site to change. This will be carried out through: • Initiation of the restoration of Roydon Common’s natural hydrology through the restoration of up to 2 km of the East Drain channel. • Restoration and improvement of 14 ha of Valley Mire / Fen at Roydon Common Nature Reserve through restoration mowing and the introduction of cattle grazing. • Creation of 30 ha acid / neutral grassland on Rising Heath • Securing the sustainable management of the Roydon Common’s mire systems for the future.
