Saltburn Friends of the Valley

The grant is to allow FOV volunteers to continue to restore the local Millfield Meadow to its natural state. Over five years there has the beginning return of flora and fauna to the meadow especially yellow rattle and 2014 the first early purple orchid. The grant will pay for a local farmer to cut the meadow twice a year for 2 years and for volunteers to rake the meadow’s edges and to carry out butterfly counts and other research work. It will also fund information for the public on the value of the meadow and a guide to the meadow, informed by a specialist consultant’s research.
