Saltmarshes on the Fringe: Restoring the Degraded Shoreline of the Eden Estuary for Nature Conservation and Coastal Defence

This project will establish app. 3 linear km of new saltmarsh habitat mainly along the south shore of the Eden Estuary Local Nature Reserve & SSSI (Fife). The new habitat will create a more natural and sustainable shoreline by connecting and regenerating the existing saltmarsh, currently identified as being unfavourable. Saltmarsh is a valuable wildlife asset and many marine and terrestrial organisms are dependent upon its existence. It is also a green coastal engineering tool that can reduce the need to repair or replace hard coastal defences that provide no wildlife habitat.
