Projects / Salwick Canoe Access

Salwick Canoe Access

This project will involve the construction, by local volunteers, of a canoe access point on the Lancaster Canal in Salwick, Lancashire.

The towpath in the area has recently been drained and stoned, but the current state of the canal edge is unstable and dirty including the presence of dog dirt. It is this canal edge that is used at present by canoeists entering and exiting the water. The proposed works would involve the construction of a ‘soft edge’ canoe access point facility, as used in other areas of the waterway network, in order to stabilise the canal edge, prevent churning up of the grass/mud, enable dog dirt to be readily seen and cleaned (if not prevented) and enable easy access into the water.
