Sands Access Phase 2

Having provided an accessible surface during Phase 01 the next Phase of work will improve the look of the recreation ground by replacing the bridge handrails, will continue to improve accessibility by refurbishing the bridge surface and other parts of the structure by providing seating at two viewpoint locations on the eastern side of the site. The seating will use durable seats that are refurbished. Installed on a paved sett area, the surround will be easy to maintain. The car park at Sands will also be resurfaced to allow better access to the bridge and beyond. This will remove the large muddy puddle which sits in a hollow adjacent to the entrance of the play space. Planting to Phase 01 area and to an area formally occupied by Japanese Knotweed will be carried out by a volunteer working party- introducing additional native wetland and marginal and woodland edge species to the site to improve the site biodiversity.
