Sands, Holmfirth Access Project

The project will improve access to the riverside and bordering land through upgrading a current path and access point that is in a state of disrepair. The path is regularly waterlogged, making access very slippy, muddy and uninviting. The access onto the bridge is not flush and there are a variety of changes in level around the access from the car park.

The scheme will visually improve Sands Recreation area making the paths safer and considerably more inviting to potential users. The performance of the space will improve because the ‘offer’ will be year round rather than only when the path is dry enough to use.

The proposed planting will reflect the riverside location, will have a diversity of height cover and will cover areas of waterlogged ground with native vegetation that can easily be maintained and cared for. The introduction of a planted understorey will give a much brighter, lighter appearance which will be far more inviting to people to enter the riverside path at this point.
